Report: Gazprom to resume purchases of gas from Turkmenistan soon
ASHGABAT, Mar 28 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom plans to resume purchases of natural gas from Turkmenistan very soon, CEO Alexei Miller said in an interview to the Turkmen television broadcast on Thursday.
Following his meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, Miller said that the company and the country see great prospects for bilateral cooperation. “The most important thing is that we will continue our work in the framework of a contract for the purchase of Turkmen gas in the nearest future,” he said.
“Cooperation in the purchases of Turkmen gas is the major direction in which we have been always working, we have an intergovernmental accord and we have a deal we are trying to restart now.”
Gazprom initiated an arbitration case against natural gas prices charged by Turkmen state company Turkmengaz in 2015, and terminated a contract with Turkmengaz in 2016 prematurely. In 2018, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said that the company planned to restart purchases of gas from Turkmengaz from January 1, 2019, but it did not do that. The arbitration case is also ongoing.
